The Avoca Painting School is about enjoying and learning various art skills within a friendly and dynamic group.

We are based at The Avoca Studio Gallery, Co. Wicklow, Ireland, run by artist Rod Coyne. We provide studio art classes, outdoor painting workshops, demonstrations and painting vacations with an informal atmosphere in the “Garden of Ireland”. Our services are designed for visiting tourists as much as locally based people with a creative urge. The Avoca Painting School can also provide tuition and demonstration at your art group’s location.

Rod Coyne is a highly experienced, practicing artist and has over 20 years experience working in the studio and en plein air (outdoors). Rod studied at the Dun Laoghaire College of Art, Dublin, later graduating in 1990 from the Crawford College of Art, Cork. He spent ten years honing his skill in his Düsseldorf studio during the nineties. The new millennium saw his return to Ireland and the beginning of a decade long conversation with the magical Irish landscape. In 2003 he founded the Avoca Studio Gallery planting his roots in the Wicklow Mountains. Rod exhibits on the international stage and his paintings grace public and private collections literally worldwide.

After painting throughout Ireland for a decade he knows the places to go no matter what the weather forecast, he knows where to access the best seascapes, sunsets and mountain scenery. And this is the experience he wants to share with you above and beyond his painting skills. Rod Coyne is passionate about his art, with him you can learn how to read the landscape and then depict it.
